Transition to the café with Gwawr and Tony, continuing where they left off from their last conversation.

Dad

So I arrived in Wales in 1978.

Gwawr

And your parents were already here?

Tony

Yeah, they were, they met me at the port.

Gwawr

Who brought you up in Jamaica?

Tony

My grandmother, and my grandad, but mainly my grandmother.

Gwawr

What about your parents?

Tony

They moved here when I was 18 months old.

Gwawr

(Said with a lack of empathy.) That must have been hard.

Tony

My grandmother said to my parents: you can go to Wales if you want, but this boy will grow up Jamaican. (Beat.) How's your mother?

Gwawr

She's fine, thank you. So what did your grandparents do?

Dad

My grandfather was farming most of the time. I was actually brought up by women completely, more or less.

Gwawr

Same

Silence

Dad

It's a shame you never got to meet her. My grandmother is still, apart from now you are here, the greatest human being that ever lived.

Gwawr laughs awkwardly.

Dad

She lived with me for all my life, her morals are my morals, but my problem is I ignored them for many years.

Gwawr

And what would those be?

Dad

Just behave yourself, be kind, be truthful.

Gwawr stifles a snort.

Dad

I know. I did send the odd message. I'm sorry, I probably said some things… some things that probably upset you. I was trying to explain my state of mind when you came around, when you were born and stuff.

Beat.

Gwawr

Yeah you did upset me.

Tony

That's not what I intended. I am so glad of the heart you have right now, and I love you so much

Beat.

Gwawr

Your grandmother, what did she do?

Dad

She was a shopkeeper. She had a village shop and, you know, raised goats, chickens. We were from the countryside so we all multi-tasked. We used to grow citrus fruits; oranges, tangerines, mangos ─ my grandfather used to grow Tangelo.

Gwawr

Grow what?

Dad

They're like a cross between tangerines, oranges and something else.

Gwawr

Oh, ok.

Dad

He used to splice some citrus fruit together and make hybrid ones.

Gwawr

Waw.

Silence

Dad

So, do you work, do you have a job?

Gwawr

I'm going to University in September, hopefully.

Dad

What will you study?

Gwawr

Politics.

Dad

Ah, so you're going to be the next British Prime Minister.

Gwawr

Welsh Prime Minister.

Dad

Ah yes, Welsh, of course.
